Devils returned to league action after winning the Continental Cup and with Saturday’s game at Fife Flyers called off after storm damage to the hosts’ venue
Devils went ahead through Ryan Barrow in the first period but Gabe Best, Zak Galambos and a power play goal from Ben Lake saw Giants take control in the second period.
JJ Piccinich’s goal in the final period sealed a significant win for Giants over their title rivals.
Belfast lead second-placed Cardiff by seven points, although the Devils have played two games fewer.
The Welsh side next host third-placed Nottingham Panthers on Saturday, 1 February, before travelling to Sheffield Steelers, currently fourth, 24 hours later.
